"Double-Shot" |
In 2001, the "Double-Shot" card, also known as the "Espresso" Card, was issued to partners only. The card itself is matte finish with a very rustic photo of an old La Marzocco espresso machine pulling two shots. This image is popular with Starbucks Partners because they saw this sight all the time while making customer drinks. It had a special meaning to them and became instantly cherished by partners and eventually everyone who likes Starbucks Cards.
The double-shot espresso card is highly collectable because of its rarity, the rarest being version 1. This version didn't have a pin number, which is very desirable for collectors, where versions 2 and 3 did have the pin number. In addition, version 1 had a special edition Sleeve as seen below.
When version 1 was released in 2001, partners received their cards with this unique holiday Sleeve (below). The Sleeve cover has a coffee stain (like someone had set a coffee cup down on the paper) then made to look like an ornament. The card stock is make from a thick recycled paper.
In October 2002, Starbucks Partners (employees) received version 3 attached to a promotional Sleeve. Take a Closer Look and read more about it!
Collectors Note: We've only seen one of these Sleeves come up for auction. Expect to pay a premium if one is found.
