Australia Cards

Starbucks Coffee Company Australia opened the doors to its first store in July 2000 in Sydney 's CBD. Over the years the company
opened around 84 stores on Australia's Eastern coast. Within 8 years, the Australian company racked-up over 143 million in losses.

Many have wondered why the Starbucks Card program in Australia is so weak, releasing just a few cards a year. The simple answer
is with all the financial losses, 60 of the 84 stores were closed. Aussie's haven't warmed-up to Starbucks - but that might change.

The Australian-owned Withers Group recently announced (2014) that they would be buying up the remaining Starbucks cafes. The CEO - Warren Wilmot,
has made it clear he wants Starbucks to be the “the most successful coffee chain in Australia”.

They have an uphill battle to win over customers in a market of Italian and Greek immigrants.
Australia adopted the art of espresso-drinking-as-a-social-lubricant much earlier than the United States, so only time will tell if it's successful.
